Question

I’ll be moving locally within Maryland in about a month and I was wondering if you can help me find moving companies in Baltimore MD or moving companies Annapolis MD.

Answer

You can use one of the moving quotes directories listed on our site to receive several free quotes in one submission with no obligation, or you can look for movers by state in Maryland. You can narrow your search for movers by city using the Search page. However, keep in mind that being located in the same city as you are does not guaranty that the rates or services will be more competitive than what other companies will be able to offer you.

Also, read through our moving tips section receive additional information about how to prepare yourself for the move and how to choose your mover.

Question

Do you happen to know if North American moving company does international moving? I figured you should have the moving companys information. I was looking for moving companies in North Carolina that do full service moving to Europe. I don’t want to get just any cheap moving company and I don’t mind it not being a local moving company. It is important for me that it is a professional moving company though, one that does moving containers with all my life’s belonging to Germany safely and with care. I’ve heard that North American is a large reputable company.

Answer

As mentioned in our replies to others, we do not provide any recommendations. However, to answer your question, North American Van Lines do international relocations as well. They have agents in different states, but you will have to contact them directly to inquire about their services and rates. Use the following Link to their site.
If you wish to look for other companies based in North Carolina or receive other international Moving Quotes, just follow the links.

Question

Can you suggest a good moving company in or near Savannah, GA? Our last move was a disaster. Without getting into too many details, I’m afraid to get scammed again. We’re moving again in a few months to Exeter, NH, and I need to find a company. We have a lot of really very heavy furniture, so moving ourselves and renting a truck just isn’t an option. I have found some companies through internet searches, but I am really looking for personal recommendations. Thank you very much. Barbara

Answer

We won’t be able to give you any specific recommendations. If you can’t get any referrals from anyone you know, the internet would be an easy place to look for one.

To minimize your risks, you should verify the licensing and insurance of moving companies on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s website. Follow this Link. Once on the website, you will need to click on “Licensing and Insurance” under FMCSA searches. You will then need to provide name and location of the company or its license numbers (can be found on web sites or quotes).

You can also check for membership with moving associations (although for itself it does not necessary guaranty that the company is fully licensed), and make sure you do get everything in writing, including the “Rights and responsibilities” booklet (the booklet can be found on and printed from the FMCSA website or downloaded as PDF version from their site). It explains the interstate moving process, charges and regulations.
For the booklet and additional consumer information (including tips on how to Protect Yourself From Moving Fraud visit the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Protect Your Move website.

When coming to plan a move, whether local or to another state, there are three basic options for moving to consider. You will need to decide what best meets your needs and compare the rates:

1. Pods- Basically it’s portable storage. You load them, the company will deliver them for you. To find sizes and rates, try the following link to Portable Storage listings.

2. Rental trucks- You load and unload, you drive. To find out rates and availability check the following link to Rental Trucks listings.

3. Moving company- Prices will vary depends on the company although they normally work by a pretty standard basic tariff. You can use one of the moving directories to receive several free Moving Quotes in one submission with no obligation, or directly contact Movers in your state.
For tips on better understanding the quotes that you receive and the services that they include, read the following Article.

Question

I need to find local movers in DC. However, when I search online (for movers Washington DC) I get moving quotes from moving companies in MD or Virginia movers. Can I use movers in MD? I am really looking for the best moving companies Washington DC.

Answer

Any company that is licensed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to engage in interstate relocation can provide you with a moving quote and moving services. If you are planning an interstate relocation you might even receive quotes from New York or California movers for example (you may find that a company that has offices as far as CA or FL or NY might have trucks in your area and will be able to provide a quote). To verify licensing use this link to the FMCSA S.a.f.e.r. system. On the website, you will need to click on “Licensing and Insurance” under FMCSA searches. You will then need to provide name and location of the company or its license numbers (can be found on web sites or quotes).
Please also be advised that some states are regulated and have specific requirements and licensing.
Also, the rates may vary, especially if the company is not local (for travel time and fuel surcharges).
Hello! I need a guide to moving to nyc.

Answer

I believe a similar question had already been answered on this blog. However, if you are looking for movers, check local listings on New York Movers page or use one of the moving directories on our site to receive multiple moving quotes. The tips on this website should be helpful whether you are planning a local move winthin NY or moving interstate. Otherwise, if you are looking for a general guide to New York City, I am afraid we will not be able to assist you.

I’m planning to move in June from Georgetown area in DC to New York. Should I be choosing a Georgetown moving company or would I be better looking for residential movers in NYC? Thnx, Ben.

Answer

You need an interstate mover and it doesn’t really matter whether the company that you decide to use has offices in Georgetown, DC or New York, NY or both. It can actually be in neither. You will have to compare rates and services (you can use a directory to receive multiple free moving quotes). Be sure to follow the Tips on our site for better understanding the quotes you receive, choosing your mover, getting an accurate estimate and more useful information.
