Storage rental space

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Question

I am handling my daughter’s move and I am looking for storage rental space. Could you help me with that? Thank you. Rita

Answer

My understanding is that you are looking for self storage facility to rent a storage unit. Self storage allows you to have flexible and easy access to your unit and your stored items for as long as you keep the unit, usually for a monthly rental fee. Please note that some facilities will offer you a discount on the rental fee for extended stay (usually 3 months and up) or payment in advance. Please use the following link to our Storage listings. For your convenience, many self storage facilities are listed on our site to save you the trouble of looking them up yourself. However, you will still have to browse online or call around to find out locations, availability and rates.

The unpaid storage fees

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

I was hired as a storage manager for a local office of an international moving company. The last storage manager was fired and left a mess. I had to go through all the customers’ files, update all the payments and balances and physical locations of their units etc. then I started working on debt collections. One of the customers had a huge shipment stored and the monthly bill was not paid for over a year.
The dispatcher remembered the customers. He said the crew that did the pick up described their house as a castle like, one that you only see in movies. They actually moved only partially into storage, to have renovations done. The house was huge, on a large piece of land. It had a cinema room and a swimming pool in the basement. Way before the recession, this didn’t sound like non-paying customers that can’t afford the monthly bill.
I called the contact number in file and left a message. The following day a guy called back, said the husband passed away but he’ll have the wife call me. She did. She said they have an estate that was supposed to pay for the move and the storage. I told her the bill with late charges already came close to $15,000. She asked that I send an invoice and she’ll make sure it will get paid. So I did.
A few days later she calls me, tells me she received the invoice and that she has a check ready for us. A day later we received it by Fedex, full payment, almost $15,000. What a shame that I was not working on commissions at the time.

Options for Moving

Monday, April 27th, 2009

When coming to plan a move, whether local or to another state, there are three basic options for moving to consider. You will need to decide what best meets your needs and compare the rates:

1. Pods- Basically it’s portable storage. You load them, the company will deliver them for you. To find sizes and rates, try the following link to Portable Storage listings.

2. Rental trucks- You load and unload, you drive. To find out rates and availability check the following link to Rental Trucks listings.

3. Moving company- Prices will vary depends on the company although they normally work by a pretty standard basic tariff. You can use one of the moving directories to receive several free Moving Quotes in one submission with no obligation, or directly contact Movers in your state.
For tips on better understanding the quotes that you receive and the services that they include, read the following Article.
